Quellaveco : facts & figures
Quellaveco is one of the world ’ s largest undeveloped copper deposits . Located in the Moquegua region of Peru , it offers a superb opportunity for Anglo American to add another world-class mining operation to its portfolio . Boasting ore reserves of 1.3 billion tonnes at an average grade of 0.57 TCU , Anglo forecasts a throughput rate of 127,500 tonnes per day while producing 300,000 tonnes of copper equivalent per year in the first 10 years of operation . The projected recovery of 7.5 million tonnes of copper would provide enough copper for 90 million electric vehicles and enough copper to wire 80 million homes . Quellaveco will support 2,500 jobs during normal operation across a projected 30-year mine life . With strong social support and all key permits in place , Anglo forecast a 20 % return on capital employed with an above 50 % EBITDA margin .
